The next day on her way out of her room, Eric stops her.
“I may have
underestimated you, Stiff,” he says. “You did well yesterday.”
For some reason, that makes her feel sick. She doesn’t want
to get Eric’s approval, because of what she thinks of the way Eric interprets
Dauntless.
If Eric thinks I did
something right, I must have done it wrong.
Tris looks around The Pit, and doesn’t think that anybody is
going to come from her family, but then she sees that her mom came. They talk,
and her mom updates her on the awful relationship between Erudite and
Abnegation, and asks her to get some information from Caleb about the
Simulation Serum. Her mom keeps talking about initiation, and ranking, and her
inconclusive results. Apparently Divergence is more common from
Abnegation-raised children than other factions.
I think it might be because of the nature of
Abnegation—their faction is more inclusive of other faction traits, I think.
Tris finally realizes that her mother was Dauntless before
she transferred to Abnegation.
